Only a selected group of Americans are qualified to get the direct payment cheques, which are expected to range from $750 to $1,500.
Christmas Bonus
Following the Georgian county of Gwinnett’s decision to provide its public employees a bonus Christmas check, payments are already being made.
The county has had trouble filling positions for first responders, utility workers, and other roles, therefore, the objective is to maintain more employees.
The bonuses coincide with inflation rates that are at all-time highs.
Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson told Fox 5 Atlanta that “Gwinnett citizens deserve sustainable, high-quality county government services and they are made possible by a strong, dependable personnel.”
“By being the public sector employer of choice, we plan to keep Gwinnett a preferred place where everyone can prosper,” she added.
Qualified Employees
These payouts increase the pool of qualified employees to earn the $1,000 December bonuses that were previously scheduled to be given to all Gwinnett County school system employees this month.
Around 21,500 employees in the school system alone were projected to make an extra $1,000.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Superintendent Calvin Watts said, “for the third school year, our workers have done a wonderful job addressing the needs of kids during the epidemic.”
Board Member Steven Knudsen previously stated, “This is a terrific thing to do at this time, after 18 months of the pandemic, inflationary worries, and all the factors that come into it.”
The school system expressly handed full-time staff incentives of $700 last year.
According to the regional newspaper, Chairman Everton Blair remarked, “You’ll always get a yes vote from me when it comes to compensating those who are working hard and making us actually satisfy the requirements of our children.”
Other Bonuses
To help suffering employees during periods of inflation, several other townships have introduced their own Christmas bonuses.
For instance, the Maryland Berlin Town Council approved $500 bonuses for municipal workers.
According to Kelsey Jensen, the town’s director of human resources, a number of openings helped pay for the incentive checks.
The one-time lump sum payout will benefit a total of 60 employees.
Families in need will get $500 in direct grants in Tennessee, meanwhile.
They must be a participant in the state’s Families First program (FFP), previously known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), in order to be eligible.
