In the most savage election of the 2022 midterm cycle, Senator Raphael Warnock, the incumbent Democratic Senator from Georgia, will compete against Herschel Walker. The two campaigns are trying to win this week’s runoff election.
The decision by former president Donald Trump to refrain from supporting Walker in the last days of the election has drawn a lot of attention. But to offer his party’s nominee the best chance of winning, President Joe Biden has also refrained against campaigning in person with Warnock.
“This race in Georgia… it’s critical,” Biden said while appearing at a Democratic Party phone bank aimed at Peach State voters, according to Fox News. “This is a guy who needs our help.”
According to the most recent polling, there is a statistical tie between the two candidates. While trading jabs with Walker, President Barack Obama personally campaigned for Warnock. LeBron James, a prominent player for the Los Angeles Lakers, entered the campaign by endorsing Warnock.
Georgia state law mandates a head-to-head runoff election between Warnock and Walker because neither candidate received 50% of the vote on November 8th.
On December 6th, Georgians will cast their ballots to determine the winner. In 2023, Democrats will already be in charge of the Senate.
