On Nov. 16, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas released the details of the state’s fifth round of Pandemic-Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) benefits for families, particularly those with children in K-12.
Awards may be distributed gradually by states during the summer, or they may be distributed all at once. The one-time award will be sent in November or December, as Texas has not yet issued Summer PEBT.
Fifth Round of P-EBT for Families, K-12 Students
P-EBT benefits were distributed to kids in grades K-12 who were absent from school due to COVID-19 during the 2021-2022 school year. For each day of the medically proven quarantine, each student got $7 in benefits, and letters were mailed out to those who were deemed eligible.
According to Orange Leader, Texas joined the list of jurisdictions authorized to run P-EBT programs in August of 2022. The state announced that P-EBT food aid may be distributed later this month to households regardless of whether or not they have been personally affected by a COVID-19 infection.
On Nov. 16, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas released the details of the fifth round of P-EBT assistance for Texas families. He assured the public that efforts are ongoing in Texas to provide food for families and children who have been impacted by school cancellations.
Abbott even thanked HSC and TEA for partnering with the USDA to make these food assistance programs available to Texan households.
As per the report, regardless of whether or not the COVID-19 health emergency has been proclaimed at the federal and state levels, the USDA allows each participating state to offer K-12 students the regular benefit of $391 per kid.
The eligibles will get a letter in the mail explaining how to claim their benefits.
P-EBT is available to some children of child-care age, and in December, SNAP benefits will be added to Lone Star Cards for those who are currently enrolled in the program.

P-EBT State Plan

As the widespread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government developed a program that distributes food subsidies to qualified households to make up for the school lunches that children missed.
Because school lunches are a lifeline for millions of American families, the unexpectedly high number of days that their children spent at home meant that they had to spend a lot more money on food than they had planned.
