Police Officer Protects Himself
At 9 p.m., an unidentified man confronted a Kilgore Police officer checking vehicles in the Hospitality Health ER parking lot. Before pulling a gun from his pocket, the suspect wants to know the officer’s name. Because the officer could not disarm the suspect, he resorts to using his service weapon to quell the violence and protect himself.
The unidentified man was shot, and the officer called for assistance at the ER; they attempted to save the suspect, but he was later pronounced dead. The officer is not hurt and has been placed on administrative leave, a source posted.
According to the police investigation, the officer is not the suspect’s target. According to evidence captured by a surveillance camera, the suspect was already at the parking space at 5:30 p.m. and had been walking for hours. The investigation is still looking for additional information about what the suspect was doing.
Longview Police and Fire Departments, as well as Texas Rangers, responded to the scene.
