As COVID-19 still continues to infect more and more people, an entire family got infected and saw two of their loved ones die hours apart.
The deceased — retired Dallas firefighter Lieutenant Randy Luper and his daughter-in-law Vanessa Luper died on July 24 at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas, where they have been admitted since July 11.
Lieutenant Luper expired at around 4.00 p.m. while her daughter-in-law succumbed to death six hours later. Incidentally, both patients have billeted four doors apart on the same floor of the hospital where other members of the family were taken after being diagnosed as positive for COVID-19.
According to Lieutenant Luper’s former colleague David Lindsey, six members of the Luper family tested positive more than two weeks ago. Both Lieutenant Luper and Lindsey worked with the Dallas Firefighters Association.
Interestingly, Lieutenant Luper came from a family of firefighters, including his dad who served as a battalion chief with Dallas Fire-Rescue, while his son now forms part of the fire department.
In a related development, the Dallas Fire Fighters Association – Local 58 and the Lt. Todd Wesley Krodle Memorial Foundation each pledged $3,000 to help defray the cost of the Luper family’s ongoing medical expenses and funeral costs.
