Surveillance video from a motel in Garland, Texas, showed three women going inside then taking a toddler from a mother. Police later charged the three women after being taken into custody.
Per the Garland Police Department, they immediately arrested one of the three women following a traffic stop when they found the toddler. The toddler was allegedly kidnapped on Oct. 17 Sunday. Days later, one of the two women not yet arrested turned herself in. Authorities later arrested the third woman.
Surveillance Video Shows How Event Unfolded
According to Houston Chronicle, the 20-month-old toddler, male, was staying with his mother at a motel. The surveillance camera in the area showed the three women arriving at the motel’s parking lot then waiting for the motel to be opened from the inside. Once the door was open, the three women immediately went inside and reportedly knocked on the door of where the mother was staying. After the mother opened the door, the three women went inside and overpowered her, so they succeeded in getting the toddler.
Later, they were spotted via the surveillance camera running out of the motel with the toddler. They rushed towards the vehicle. The mother of the toddler later chased them but could no longer get her child. She then removed the license plate of the car and called the authorities.
Police Pulls Over Vehicle At Traffic Stop
After being alerted, police conducted a traffic stop and pulled over a vehicle that matched the license plate that the mother got. Police said they found an 11-year-old child and the missing toddler inside. The driver, named Lashonda Price, was arrested and charged with kidnapping. Her bail is at $20,000.
The second suspect, Romeisha Brown, turned herself in on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning, the third suspect, Kemberly William, got arrested at a motel. Both face kidnapping charges, too.
It is unclear what the cause of the alleged kidnapping is, but police believe the suspects knew the mother.
Police Praise Mother’s Quick Thinking
ABC 13 reported that the authorities praised the mother of the allegedly kidnapped child for thinking quickly. ABC 13 quoted Lt. Pedro Barineau with the Garland Police Department saying, “She did the best thing she could have done, and she grabbed the license plate off the front of the car. And I am not quite sure how she got it off… Momma strength. It was one of those things when her baby was taken, and she was going to do everything she can.”
