For the School Year 2021-2022, Houston ISD will Give Free Meals to Pupils.
This school year, HISD announced a policy of providing free nutritious meals to all students. A student’s family must meet specific financial requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Free dinners are available to all kids in the Houston School District starting Monday. According to HISD, the US Department of Agriculture has amended its guidance, allowing schools to provide free meals for the 2021-2022 school year, as reported by Click 2 Houston. Because of the amended guidance released by the United States Department of Agriculture, the district chose to provide free meals (USDA).
Students’ Health is Taken into Consideration
According to HISD statement, Nutrition Services has resumed its regular operations and services. At some campuses, staff will serve breakfast in the classroom, lunch in the cafeteria, and snacks and dinner. The health, medicinal, and specific dietary needs of students will be taken into account. Outside vendors, foods served by groups of parents, and clubs are also prohibited.
The Neighborhood Supersite community food and household supply distribution program and campus curbside pickup and apartment complex delivery programs will no longer be permitted, according to HISD.
Not all Schools in Houston are Qualified
For the 2021-2022 academic year, all students at the School for International Studies at Bammel in grades pre-K through 3rd will be provided with free lunches. Because this is a new campus, students are encouraged to apply for free and reduced meals.
For the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year, the Spring ISD Child Nutrition Department will process applications to determine student eligibility. They further stated that pupils attending other Spring ISD schools are eligible for free and reduced meals, according to CW 39 Houston.
