As the new tax season approaches, United Way Suncoast is once again launching its annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Initiative (VITA), aimed at ensuring that millions of hardworking families receive the tax credits they are entitled to and deserve.
This year, households earning $79,000 or less annually can benefit from complimentary tax preparation services either online or in person at two designated Tax-A-Thon events.
The first event is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will take place at the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, located at 3100 Fruitville Road in Sarasota.
Following that, on Saturday, March 30th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., United Way Suncoast will host the DeSoto Tax Action Day at the All Faiths Food Bank Resource Center situated at 1021 E. Oak St. in Arcadia.
During both events, United Way’s dedicated team of IRS-trained VITA volunteers will be available to assist residents with their tax preparation needs and offer valuable insights into other financial stability services.
In the previous year, United Way Suncoast, in collaboration with its partners, successfully secured $13.8 million in refunds, tax credits, and savings on preparation fees across its five-county service area. This effort included garnering $1.5 million specifically for Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties, demonstrating the significant impact of the initiative on local communities.
For residents with straightforward tax returns who prefer a do-it-yourself approach, a self-preparation option is also available.
United Way Suncoast’s VITA initiative not only provides vital assistance with tax filing but also contributes to enhancing financial literacy and stability among individuals and families in the region. By offering free tax preparation services and empowering residents with financial knowledge, the organization continues to play a crucial role in promoting economic well-being and prosperity within the community.
