To help the three categories of people and organizations I’ll be writing about in this piece, the Canadian government launched the Gasoline Tax Refund program.
Reimbursement claims can be made for up to two years from the date of purchase. Get the Excise Gasoline Tax Refund 2024 Application by downloading Form XE8 from the CRA website. Further details and instructions are available on the Canada Excise Gasoline Tax Refund 2024 form. For extra information about this program, call the Gasoline Tax Refund Unit at 1-877-432-5472 of the CRA.
Refund of Excise Gasoline Tax:
The excise gasoline tax rebate is available to eligible Canadians. Refunds for federal excise taxes paid by consumers on gasoline purchases are available. By filling out Form XE8, people can apply for the Gasoline Tax Refund.
However, not everyone is eligible for the Excise Gasoline Tax Refund; according to the government, specific requirements must be met to be eligible. This sizeable payment may offer some respite for those paying high fuel excise tax.

Who is Qualified for Gasoline Tax Reimbursement?
A person who is permanently immobile and is unable to use public transportation is eligible for a gasoline tax refund. The federal government has instituted the Gasoline Tax Refund for three primary categories.
Those who make claims must fit into one of the following groups:
- authorized nonprofits
- Enrolled members of the Canadian Amateur Athletic Union who are permanently disabled
When completing Form XE8, individuals are required to check the relevant categories. They must provide the appropriate organization’s account number if they fit under the Registered Canadian Amateur Athletic Association or Registered Charities category.
In contrast, those in the last group must decide if they have a medical certification indicating their mobility is permanently impaired, making it unsafe to utilize public transit.
How Can I Get a Refund for the Excise Gasoline Tax?
- One may request this substantial reimbursement by utilizing the Application for Refund of Federal Excise Tax. Visit the Canadian government’s official website to get this form.
- The only use is for the gasoline excise tax, which is paid at 0.015 dollars per liter or 0.0015 dollars per kilometer. Furthermore, only the original user may utilize the government-issued reimbursement. The claimants alone should make use of it. This reimbursement is not available for petrol that was bought abroad. While submitting supporting receipts or papers with Form XE8 is not mandatory, individuals should have them on hand if the authorities want them.
- Receipts, invoices, vouchers, and other paperwork may be included to substantiate the claim. Please ensure that the purchase date, supplier name, fuel amount, and price are all included in these records.
- A claimant may submit the form at any time during the year if it exceeds $200. People are advised to submit a single claim form each month. For every six months ending on June 30 or December 31, individuals with a claim worth less than $200 must submit it.
- All fuel-related claims should be consolidated into one if multiple cars are involved. Next, they should ascertain if the claim sum exceeds or falls short of $200.
