$800 Monthly Direct Payments
Americans in Palm Springs, California, will soon be able to apply for $800 monthly direct payments for a year and a half. The guaranteed income pilot is being funded by the Palm Springs City Council and run by nonprofit organizations Queer Works and DAP Health.
Who Qualifies?
According to a published article in The U.S. Sun, starting on March 15, eligible residents can apply to participate in the program. To qualify, applicants must have an income no greater than 30 percent of the median income in Riverside County and be clients of DAP Health or Queer Works or enrolled with one of them by March 14. They must also live and work at least part-time in Palm Springs or spend most of the day in the area.

Only 30 individuals will be selected to participate in the pilot. Those interested can sign up for enrollment alerts online to receive reminders. After the applications are submitted, participants will be randomly selected, and notifications will be sent out on March 30th. It is currently unclear if there is a specific deadline for the applications.
The first batch of $800 monthly direct payments is set to arrive on May 15 and will continue for 18 months. This pilot program aims to help those struggling to make ends meet and provide them with financial stability during difficult times.
While this program is only available to a small group of individuals in Palm Springs, it sets an example for future guaranteed income pilots across the country. With the pandemic still causing economic uncertainty for many Americans, initiatives like this could be a lifeline for those in need.
