At the age of 75, musician Rab Noakes passed away. The Scottish man, who was born in Cupar, Fife, passed away unexpectedly in the hospital, according to vocalist Barbara Dickson, who shared the news online.
He was a founding member of Stealers Wheel and a solo performer who put out more than 20 albums and appeared at events like Celtic Connections. Noakes worked as a senior music producer at the BBC before starting his own production company.
His frequent musical partners included Dickson, who referred to him as “my beloved and old buddy.” She added the following in a tweet: “She felt astounded. We shared a deep love of songs, especially traditional music, as well as a shared appreciation for The Everly Brothers and the Flying Burrito Brothers.
Val McDermid, a writer, posted: “shedding tears over the passing of Rab Noakes. Since he was 14, I’ve known and adored this wonderful, talented, and open-hearted man; I’ve never met a kindlier soul. or an improved musician.
“When we last messaged him just a few days ago, he seemed to be in his usual upbeat mood. We intended to co-record a couple tracks in the upcoming year.
