Before the discovery of the European Settlement, the Island of Lord Howe was undiscovered and not inhabited. The Island was not known to the Polynesian people of the South Pacific. There haven’t been any historic activity by human. There have been several successful archaeological investigations that have looked up to the success of the Island. The Europeans first visited the Lord Howe Islands on the 17th of February, 1788. It was found by the commander of the tender, the lieutenant Henry Ball. It was then claimed that it was a British possession. The permanent settlement was directly made in 1834. Trading provisions began on the Island in 1842, and proper scientific expeditions started in 1861.

The Early civilization was European and then American whaler; they have lived on the Island for more than six generations. The official direct control of the Lord Howe Islands was given to the British Crown, but it was given to New South Wales in 1855. The people living on the Island had self-regulating and had relative religions. In 1878, Richard Armstrong was successfully named as the governor, and it was declared by the authority of New South Wales that the Island was a forest reserve. There were four successful governors after him till 1913, when a new government formed, and a resident superintendent was appointed to the job. Land tenure has been a direct problem on the Island as the people living there have directly demanded freehold title on the Island or absolute cultivated land for work.
