‘My Dress-Up Darling’: Marin flaunts Her Outfits in New Anime Art

‘My Dress-Up Darling’ Marin Kitagawa appears in several outfits in the latest version of anime season’s breakout hit reports cbr.com.

When several popular anime production staff members posted their art of the series’ female lead, Marin Kitagawa, to their personal Twitter accounts, the latest illustration came to light.

The first new illustration was released by the chief animation director, Jun Yamazaki. He shared a full-color portrait of the young cosplayer with a casual black tee and jeans, a look that appeared in the series’ latest episode.

Costume designer Erika Nishihara, who had created Marin’s outfits for the anime adaptation, also illustrated the character wearing her poorly put-together original attempt at cosplay. Finally, animation director Gin-san shared an illustration of Marin’s reaction to Gojo’s completed Shizuku-tan costume. On Jan. 24, Yamazaki released several critical frames from the third episode of the series and another full-color drawing of Marin.

Show is being helmed by Wonder Egg Priority animation studio

The show is being produced by Wonder Egg Priority animation studio CloverWorks, producing two other series airing during this anime season. The anime was directed by Keisuke Shinohara, who previously worked on Little Witch Academia. The anime series also stars Shoya Ishige (Godzilla Singularity Point, Haikyuu!!) as Gojo and Hina Suguta (Bang Dream! Garupa Pico: Omori) as Marin.

The anime series has carved a niche for itself with its endearing characters, its depiction of the cosplay subculture, and the amount of work that creates costumes.

The series first came into existence when writer and artist Shinichi Fukuda created a manga published in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in 2018.

Endearing story of doll creator

The storyline is straightforward. Wakana Gojo is a timid young high school student whose passion is creating Hina figures, a traditional Japanese doll. However, a past rejection weighs heavily on Gojo, who is terrified of sharing his passion with his peers. So it continues until he meets Marin Kitagawa, a popular classmate who is amenable to her otaku-centric hobbies, including playing video games and watching anime. Thus start an unlikely relationship with Marin goading a reluctant Gojo to use his skills he has perfected through dollmaking to help her achieve her dream of cosplaying all of her favorite characters.

‘My Dress-Up Darling’ is currently being helmed by Crunchyroll and Funimation, with new episodes premiering every Sunday. The original manga is available in English, print, and digital formats from Square Enix.
