The increase in COVID cases in California has been at an alarming rate in the past few days. Accordingly, in the past weeks, health officials recorded a 261 per cent increase in the COVID cases in Los Angeles alone. That will amount to around 1,077 cases daily. A day after this recording, 1 537 new cases were likewise confirmed.

Per the latest order, citizens in the nation’s most populated county noted that all citizens are obligated to wear masks, whatever their vaccination status is. The wearing of masks has been the number one measure put in place by health officials to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The order will be in effect by 11:59 P.M. this Saturday and is the same order that was lifted in the whole of California last June 15. Health officials said they had to place the order again because millions will be at risk if they do not move now. The order will remain until the county officials see any improvement regarding the number of COVID cases in the area. Also, they will consider other additional health measures should there be more problems in the coming days and weeks.

Around four million citizens in Los Angeles County are not yet vaccinated. Ninety-nine per cent of the new cases are said to have come from the unvaccinated population.

Aside from Los Angeles County, officials in the Sacramento area also placed the same rule this week.

In total, there have been more than 33.9 million cases recorded in the whole of the United States since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020. Deaths, on the other hand, were recorded at more than 608,000.
