COVID-19 Infections Are On The Rise In Texas

The number of new coronavirus cases in Texas climbed by 5.4 percent in the week ending Sunday, with the state adding 8,730 cases. There were 8,286 new infections in the preceding week.

According to a USA TODAY Network study of Johns Hopkins University statistics, Texas has been placed 15th among the states with the highest per-person transmission of coronavirus.

Coronavirus infections in the United States climbed 4% over the previous week, with 83,096 cases reported. Texas recorded 10.51 percent of the country’s cases in the past week, despite having 8.71 percent of the population. In the most recent week, 23 states reported higher instances than the previous week.

Backlogged Cases

In late June, Texas reported a significant number of backlogged cases, making week-to-week comparisons misleading.

On a per-person basis, the worst weekly outbreaks in Texas were in Reeves, Dimmit, and Titus counties. Bexar County added the newest cases overall, with 857; Tarrant County, with 715; and Dallas County, with 575. In 93 counties, weekly case numbers increased from the previous week. Jefferson, Williamson, and Harris counties had the greatest jumps from the previous week’s pace.

In the most recent week, Wichita County recorded 23 cases and 0 deaths. It has recorded 15,219 cases and 381 fatalities during the epidemic.

Young County recorded four cases and zero fatalities. It has recorded 2,192 cases and 45 fatalities during the epidemic.

Montague County recorded four cases and zero fatalities. It has recorded 2,124 cases and 73 fatalities during the epidemic.

Clay County recorded three fewer cases and zero deaths. It has recorded 1,039 cases and 16 fatalities during the epidemic.

In the most recent week, Archer County recorded 0 cases and zero fatalities. It has recorded 812 cases and 12 fatalities during the epidemic.

Wilbarger County reported two fewer cases and zero deaths in the most recent week. It has recorded 1,933 cases and 55 fatalities during the epidemic.

In the most recent week, Baylor County reported one case and no fatalities. It has recorded 300 cases and 13 fatalities during the epidemic. Hardeman County recorded two cases and zero deaths during the same period. It has recorded 387 cases and 12 fatalities during the epidemic.
